Alanis Morissette

Alanis Nadine was born June 1, 1974. Her birthplace was Ottawa, Canada. Alanis' Greek name is an empathetic version of her father's surname, Alan. Her siblings are Chad (Alanis Twin) as well as Wade. She first started playing piano and guitar when she aged 21. In 1986 Alanis made a single called Fate Stay with Me (b-side: Find The Right Man). She recorded two albums as a dance-pop singer in Canada: Alanis (1991) and the album Now Is The Time (1992). She was 18 when she moved to Toronto and began working with a variety of performers and song writers, but the collaborations didn't work. Glen Ballard was the producer/songwriter she decided to go with in 1994. Glen previously had worked with Aretha Frankin Michael Jackson and Barbra Strreisand. Then she moved to LA aged 19. In June of 1995 "Jagged Little Pill" was released by Madonna's Maverick Records. Alanis's songs were autobiographical. JLP is the 3rd most-sold album ever and has been sold thirty million times across the world. JLP's release came after anxiety (she thought about not recording an album) while taking an excursion abroad. Alanis Alanis Alanis
